I’ve been feeling very nostalgic these past couple months when it comes to life and music and you can kind of tell by some of my picks. I went back and looked at all my privated playlists and was seeing what I was listening to then and it’s crazy to see how much my music taste has changed and evolved. I think right now I’m in a post punk, experimental electronic, and very guitar driven music. In high school I leaned into more pop and rap and anything very angsty even though I hadn’t really gone through anything but I think that’s the nature of being a teenager. I also feel sad about all the artists I left behind. I very much will drop an artist if I don’t like an album they put out I’m not a ride through the muck kind of fan. Why complain when you can move on and find something just like it and if not better. It has inspired me though to go back and see if maybe currently they’re making music I’d be into.
I think part of the reason I’m also feeling nostalgic is because I’m moving home (hopefully temporarily). I had to have surgery in August and that’s partially why there are like no songs for this month. It has been a very weird 2 1/2 years dealing with hip problems but I think I’m out of the thick of it finally! It’s a weird feeling being in your 20’s and your health not being at its greatest. So many things I’ve missed out on or haven’t really been able to do but maybe my 30s will be better.
Anyway the theme of the past 2 months is looking back and regressing thinking about what is now and what could’ve been.
Is There Something in the Movies? by Samia - I was watching Uptown girls with my roommate and I was reminded of this song. There’s a line in this song that is about Brittany Murphy and how she gave Samia a stuffed animal when she was little. I used to play this song on repeat back in 2020.
Juna by Clairo - I’m a long time Clairo fan and have been following them since she released pretty girl forever ago. Crazy to see how much the music has changed over time. I love jumping from Sexy to Someone to Juna. Going from wanting someone to notice you into knowing someone like the back of your hand is such a beautiful thing.
Meet Me Halfway by Black Eyed Peas - If I’m being honest I’ve been listening to this song for the past 3 months religiously but just have never added it to the monthly playlist but this time it’s making the cut.
Sasquatch .22 by Bay Faction - Bay Faction is back! I used to listen to this song at the end of high school or beginning of college very much a song from my teenage years. I was supposed to see them in like May of 2020 opening for HUNNY but we know how that story goes and then they disbanded shortly after but they’re back and now there is still plenty of time.
God Hold You by Famous - This is a UK band that I literally have been obsessed with since 2021. I’ve been waiting for them to release something new and now the wait is over. New album in October and started out with a double-sided single. Both are great.
Backyard Lover by Merce Lemon - Yeah this one hurts. All about grief and its effects. The buildup in this song is quite cathartic.
Looking at Engines by Font - I saw font open for Bar Italia sometime last year and have been anticipating this album since then.
Homie Don’t Shake by Fcukers - I feel like Fcukers spawned out of nowhere last March but I’m so happy they did. Great dance music
Poor Madeline by Daffo & Searows - Daffo cameout with a really great EP last year and have been releasing remixes with different artists and Poor Madeline has always been my favorite.
Something About What Happens When We Talk by Lucinda Williams - Nigel and Mariah sang a sweet sweet cover of this and I became obsessed. I’m slowly making my way through Lucinda Williams Discography and am pleasantly surprised since I’m not a huge traditional country fan.
Bikini by Nick Leon & Erika de Casier - Do not ask me how many times of listened to this song. There’s something in it that just makes it so addicting.
Sorry by Cryogeyser - It has been a long 3 year wait for Cryogeyser to release new music and right on time for the fall and winter months.
Van Goes by Being Dead This song reminds me of When you Die by MGMT for some reason. My favorite single so far excited for the album to come out in September.
Halo by Plastic - Plastic’s debut album drops September 13th. First single is very heavy. Very excited for it to drop
August
Die With A Smile by Lady Gaga & Bruno Mars - Pop music is back!
Crying At The End by Porches
This is How It Went by Beabadoobee - I just love the drama that is associated with this song
Dull by Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers
One Hit Wonder by Olivia O.
What’s Fair Blondshell - I used to be OBSESSED with Olympus by Blondshell back in 2022 and their self-titled debut album was one of my favorites in 2023. This single is very reminiscent of the late 90s. I could see it being in a rom-com or a teen movie.
Virtual You by 22° Halo -First single off their upcoming project.
Supersonic by Oasis - No explanation needed
Bluff by Sex Week - Richard and Pearl are making some amazing music! I’ve been obsessed with every single leading up to the release of their EP and now it’s finally here
Kelsey by Metro Station
